How we work it out

• We turn your yearly fuel into heat using typical numbers: propane, natural gas and oil systems about 80 to 85% efficient, electric 100%.
• A biomass system is about 75% efficient. Fuel energy is typical as delivered: wood chips about 10 million BTU per tonne, pellets about 16.5, sawmill waste about 9, straw about 13.5, husks about 15.5. Wetter fuel has less.
• Rough system size comes from your yearly heat spread over about 2,000 full-load hours (1,000 for grain drying). We size it properly from your bills before we quote.
• It compares fuel cost only. It is an estimate, not a quote.
