The job
Willow Creek Colony heats its barns and colony buildings from one central plant. That plant used to burn coal.
Now a 13 million BTU SCW boiler burns wood chips instead.

The stoker in our shop in Headingley.

Setting the unit in the boiler building.
What we built
- A 13 million BTU boiler with our chain grate stoker.
- Firebox, stoker and controls built in our shop in Headingley, Manitoba.
- A walking floor that feeds chips to the boiler automatically.
- Controls with remote monitoring.
Walking floor
The walking floor goes in before the boiler. Chips are dumped on it, and it moves them to the auger that feeds the stoker.

The walking floor going in.
“We switched from coal to wood chips, and our heating cost is about half what it was. The walking floor keeps it fed.”

The result
Heating cost is about 50% lower than it was on coal.

Boiler and dust collector in place.
